The team at Merrimack Valley Transit (MeVa) are a passionate group of people, dedicated to providing the best possible transportation experience to their community. The public transportation service had recently undergone a collaborative rebranding that elevated the overall brand and helped to provide the friendly and welcoming experience the team had been working towards.

Project Goals

The new brand provided an amazing opportunity to create a stand-out web presence for MeVa. Besides the introduction of GTFS capabilities, provided and developed by Optibus, MeVa’s old website had all of the basic and necessary functionality. My primary goals were to update the user interface to reflect the new brand, and to improve the user experience by redesigning the user flow, and the layout of the tools provided by the site.

Mobile-First Approach

As with most modern websites, the mobile experience should be prioritized. Designing mobile-first is especially important for public transportation websites due to the high percentage of visitors using their smart phones to access public transportation services. The major upgrade for MeVa’s new website was the improvement of the mobile experience - now when users visit the new site on their smart phones, the tools they’re needing and looking for are a breeze to access.

Branding & Styleguide

With bright, playful colors and images that capture the experience of riding on a MeVa city bus, the new brand represents MeVa’s commitment to providing the best public transportation service to their community.

Interactive Maps

Collaborating with the team at MeVa, I redesigned their out-dated static route map to reflect the new branding, and to be a fully interactive experience in a desktop environment (for the mobile experience, users are directed to the real-time GTFS route map). The interactive map has custom details included that local riders will recognize and provides an engaging and informative online experience.
